The Journey Begins

Let’s go!

“It is a peculiar sensation, this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one’s self through the eyes of others… One ever feels his twoness,—an American, a Negro; two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warrings ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder.”

W.E.B DuBois (1868-1963)
The Souls of Black Folk (1903)

What does it mean to be both Negro (Colored, Black, African) and American?  What does it mean to grow up in the Pacific Northwest vs the South?  How does location shape our experiences, thoughts on Blackness?  Is there any difference at all?  Who are we when celebrating our Blackness (culture, heritage), our being, our existence in America?
